How to Password Protect Your WordPress Site
Rachel Cunliffe has a nice little write-up about how to password protect your WordPress site. I would add this to her list:
Check with your web host. Sometimes you can simply make a change on your control panel to password protect your site. My host 1and1, for example, provides this simple method in their FAQ section.

I have a section on my wordpress site that is password protected. I would like to post some items on there that I only want my clients to have access to. Using the password protect – will people have the ability to search for my files? I generally post the file to the media secion and then put into the right pages from there. I am worried that if I post to the media section they can be searched and indexed by google and other spiders.
If the post/page is password protected, no one will be able to access it without the password. I don’t believe the media library gets indexed or can be accessed by anyone unless you provide a direct link to the file.
I am using “Registered Users Only 1.0.3″ this is also great plugin for making your blog private and password protected.
I will check out the information listed. I was looking for a solution to password protect my blog.
