Previously Answered Questions

  1. Question by Reena

    Hi Michael

I love the Sublime theme, but starting off small and looking to grow into it, so I just have a few queries:

    1) Home page – can I start off with the slideshow at the top and then the “Other Recent Articles” section directly following? (ie. remove the 2 columns Tutorials/Software/etc until I have more content.

    2) Because I’m starting off with just a handful of content, can the menu/navigation items be changed accordingly – at the moment, there’s more than I need, especially if I can remove Tutorials/Software/etc

    3) Can I remove Sponsored Ads and banners, and perhaps insert a Youtube widget in it’s place?

    4) Can Flickr photos be removed from the Footer links and subscription section

    5) I know you’ve mentioned you can change the colour options, but is that just to the colour options shown in the menu list? I need a green that’s a bit more lime!

    6) If I need to add a contact form to the site, can this be added to the menu options at the top?

    Thanks very much
    Reena

    • Answer by Michael Pollock

Hi Reena. The answer to all six of your questions is yes.

  2. Question by Mike

    Hi,

Thinking about using Sublime. Am wondering if it supports the custom menu feature from the WP 3.0 release?

    • Answer by Michael Pollock

Yes, it certainly does support the new menu management function. All our themes do.

  3. Question by Scott

    Hello,

Can I add a customer external link to the menu in the WP-Sublime theme? I saw the video on adding external links for the WP-Prosper and was wondering if I can do that through the control panel on WP-Sublime?

    Thanks!

    Scott

    • Answer by Michael Pollock

Yes, it works the same way on this theme.

  4. Question by DBro

One more question: Is there a contact form? If not, can a contact form be created by simply creating a new page leaving comments turned on?

    • Answer by Michael Pollock

No, there’s no contact form built in, but there are numerous plugins you can use to add one.

  5. Question by DBro

I’m going to be purchasing this theme for a new website I’m starting – I love it because it’s simple, neat, organized and looks to have great ad options/management.

Question: I’d like to use the ‘light’ template but is it possible to switch the colour of the header area from blue to white? I’d like my site logo to appear on a white background. Also, is it possible to change the colour of the black menu bars (where pages are listed and at the top of the image slider) to another colour like navy blue?

Question: love the area on each post allowing users to print/share the post – looks like you’ve used WP-print plugin for the print option – if so, can I add WP-email to this list as well? Also, is there control over where this appears within a post or does it always have to appear at the top? I’m asking because on most posts, I would like to see it appear below a full-width picture.

Question: Love the related posts at the bottom of each post – is this feature active and how does it work? Does it compare text from other articles on the site? Just curious. And also, the ‘about the author’ – can that be turned off/on? Is it a gravatar you need to have an avatar show up there?

    Nice work.

    • Answer by Michael Pollock

Thanks for the kind words DBro.

Yes, you can change the header background to whatever color you like via the theme settings page.

Yes, you can change the nav bar background color via the theme settings page.

Yes, you can add WP-Email as long as you are willing to do the necessary template modifications. The post tools always appears as the top. If you want it somewhere else, you’d need to modify the theme.

Related posts are created with a plugin. You can read about how it works here: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/yet-another-related-posts-plugin/

The author bio can be turned off via the theme settings page.

The avatars requare a gravatar.com account.

  6. Question by Jochen

Does this or any other themes from solostream have problems with the NextGEN Gallery plugin?

And is it possible to embed NextGEN Gallery images as article images?

    • Answer by Michael Pollock

It should work fine with NextGen gallery. If not, let us know and we’ll try to help.

  7. Question by Chris Sinclair

The $279 is for all your themes??

    • Answer by Michael Pollock

Hi Chris. No, $279 is for the Developer’s license of this theme only. If you’d like to purchase multiple themes, let us know, and we’ll offer you a special deal.

  8. Question by Kim Dushinski

This is a great looking theme and I am considering it. I have two questions:

    1) Is there a way to easily (without going into the code) exclude Pages from showing on the navigation bar? I use a lot of pages and don’t want them all showing on the navigation.

    2) If I make changes to the design of the theme and then an upgrade of the theme comes out is there a way to bring my changes over in the upgrade?

    Thank you.

    • Answer by Michael Pollock

Hi Kim. Thanks for the kind words. You would have to tweak the code to exclude pages from the navigation bar. It’s pretty simple though, and someone in our support forum could give you simple instructions on how to do it.

As for future upgrades and design changes, unfortunately, I can’t give you a yes or no answer on that. Ultimately, it depends on how you actually implement any changes. We can offer some guidance on how to make design changes and not lose them on a future upgrade.

  9. Question by Meron

    Hi there,

Nice theme – looks very professional.

I have a couple of questions.
    1) Is there a way for the visitor to pause the slide show at the top of the page?
    2) Is there a way to slow it down?
    Many thanks.

    • Answer by Michael Pollock

Hi Meron. Yes, you can slow it down or turn it off completely. I believe there may also be a way to pause it when the visitor hovers over the post

  10. Question by Jerry

If I buy a Single Use license to try out a particular theme, can I upgrade to a Developer License within the first 30 days?

    • Answer by Michael Pollock

Yes, you can upgrade later for the price difference.

  11. Question by Jerry

When you buy a Developer package, is that just for the one Theme that you selected? In other words, if I am setting up blogs for clients, and have a developer license, do I need to buy a developer license for every theme in order to have them all available?
    Thanks

    • Answer by Michael Pollock

Hi Jerry. The Developer’s license is specific to the theme, so yes, if you want to use all the themes for clients, you’d need to buy a license for each one. If that’s something you want to do, let us know, and we’ll see if we can work out a deal for you.

  12. Question by Bert Trotman

    Hi, love this theme!

Is it relatively easy to change the posts to have 2 sidebars (sidebar/content/sidebar)?

    Thanks,
    Bert

    • Answer by Michael Pollock

Hi Bert. Thanks for the kind words. This theme is only available in the 2-column layout. It could be modified to use a 3rd sidebar, but there would be an extra charge for that customization.

  13. Question by Wendy Goodfriend

I am wondering if there are any know problems using WP Multi-user latest version vs Individual user version

    • Answer by Michael Pollock

Hi Wendy. No, no known problems with WPMU.

  14. Question by Rodrigo

    Hey there Mike,

First of all, congratulations for the very professional and excelent quality themes.

Is it possible to ad an “opt in” personalized subscription box widget at the right sidebar (e.g. free training letters for subscribers)?

Do you offer that service as well?

Thank you very much in advance.

    Rodrigo

    • Answer by Michael Pollock

Hi Rodrigo. Yes, you can add your own opt-code via the theme settings page.

  15. Question by Chloe

Just wondering if its possible to change the size of the thumbnails and the color of the backround?

    • Answer by Michael Pollock

      Hi Chloe. Yes, that’s possible.

  16. Question by Jerome Wilkins

Can I put my on slides in this template.
    Jerome

    • Answer by Michael Pollock

Hi Jerome. I’m not quite following your question. Can you clarify a bit?

  17. Question by Jim

    Hi Michael,

Not “flip” at all. I should have explained better. My bad. Basically I want to have video on the site. Each month I will post a new video. I do not want to use YouTube or the others and embed the video. I would like to keep it on my site and run from my site. I have looked at WordPress “VideoPress” that would work and the quality is nice. (yes I understand that the video is hosted elsewhere)

More than likely on the front page as the feature article would link to the video page.

Thank you for your previous quick reply.

    Jim

    • Answer by Michael Pollock

Understood Jim. Thanks for the clarification.

  18. Question by Jim

    Hi Michael,

Beautiful work here. I have been searching for some time looking for what works best for us.I do have a few questions though.

    1) How difficult would it be to implement video? Basically this will be a video centric site as well as articles for a travel destination. More or less a travel news outlet with basic listing for companies.

2)Does your company offer modification work?

    Thank you for your time,
    Jim

    • Answer by Michael Pollock

Hi Jim. Not to be flip, but it depends on what you mean by “implement video.” With WordPress, it’s relatively simple to embed something like a Youtube video into a post or page. If that’s all you need to do, no problem.

Yes, we do offer modification work.

  19. Question by spachez

hi, can i use these theme in other languages?
    thank you

    • Answer by Michael Pollock

Hi Spachez. You can use it in other languages, but you’d need to do the translation yourself. It’s currently only available in English.

  20. Question by Brian

Is it possible to have full-width featured items on other pages, or only on the home page?

    Thanks,
    Brian

  21. Question by Sam

    Hi

Last couple of questions then I’m good to buy….

    1) Is there the option for the posts on the front page be to be full posts rather than highlights with thumbnails?

    2) If I pay for a single use initially, can I upgrade later to multi-use paying only the $100 extra or would I have to pay an additional $179?

    Thanks

    • Answer by Michael Pollock

Yes, you can have the posts on the home page be set up as full posts if you prefer.

Yes, you can upgrade later for the difference ($100).

  22. Question by Sam

Can you tell me more about the ad banner options:

Can you add more than 4 125×125 banners per page and other banners eg 300×250?

Will the ads be the same on each page (site-wide) or can you customise certain pages/categories to have different banner ads?

    Many thanks

    • Answer by Michael Pollock

Hi Sam. The ads in the sidebar can be whatever size you want as long as they fit within the size of the sidebar (300px wide). You can use as many as you like.

Because the sidebar is the same on each page, the ads would be the same on each page (site-wide). I believe there are plugins available that would allow you to use different ads on various pages, and you could do a search in the WordPress plugin directory to investigate that further.

  23. Question by David

This theme displays three posts for each of six categories, which I like. However, I definitely prefer the more visible way the category name is set off in Smooth. How much effort is involved to change the background and font in the category name box? Note: I do have programming experience in other languages.

Also, can the box below the post be omitted from the setup screen? (Namely the box that displays the post date, 0 comments, & View Post)

    Thanks, David

    • Answer by Michael Pollock

Hi David. Yes, those sorts of changes can be accomplished. If you need some help on how to do it, the folks in our support forum can provide guidance.

  24. Question by David

After looking at numerous magazine style themes sources, I’m settling in on SoloStream. I’m considering Launch, Genius, Sublime, and Clear. It is hard to tell what the real differences are. Some kind of table would be helpful to compare them. Also, I do like the two nav bars. Is one for pages and the other for posts?

It will be a business site where we want to display category (6 actually) information as you have it laid out. However, we expect to have posts for numerous categories, but we could also have pages of static information. All of it will need an easy way for the user to find–even if it were numerous years old. Suggestions?

Is there a money back guarantee? I can’t find mention of it. If there was, I could try several and keep what I liked.

    Thanks, David

    • Answer by Michael Pollock

Hi David. The only real differences are in the layout and design style of each theme.

One nav bar is for your pages, and the other is for post categories.

As far as making content easy to find, the best tool is the search form which is included in most of the themes. Also, a well-defined set of categories can help as well.

As for money back guarantees, because these are digital products, we don’t offer a money back guarantee unless there are extenuating circumstances. My best advice is to pick the theme with the most appealing visual design.

  25. Question by Mike Prime

Is the Sublime template cross-browser safe – I need it to be compatible with ie6 and above.

    Thanks in advance
    Mike

    • Answer by Michael Pollock

Yes, Mike, it is cross-browser safe. It’s been tested with all major browsers, including I6, IE7, IE8, Firefox, Safari, Chrome and Opera.

  26. Question by Charles

Just to clarify…If purchasing the “Multiple Use” version of your themes, we can remove the solostream link in the footer?

    Thanks,
    Charles

    • Answer by Michael Pollock

      Yes, that’s correct Charles.

  27. Question by Ken

    Michael

Is there a theme that you offer that does this w/o custimization

    Let me know

    Ken

    • Answer by Michael

No. Sorry. It’s just not something that’s requested often.

It’s not really difficult to do though. I could walk you through it pretty easily.

  28. Question by Ken

    Hello Michael

I’m new to this. What if we did not want to allow for posts. Can that
    be turned off.

Are photos easy to be loaded

Can we add a page of Industry news. The Industry news would be created as a mixed
feed from other sources and streamed to this page.

    Thanks

    Have a great day

    Ken

    • Answer by Michael

Hi Ken. I’m afraid not quite following you on the first question “What if we did not want to allow for posts. Can that be turned off.” Can you say more about that?

Photos are easy to upload via the WordPress control panel. I did a short video that might explain it a bit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D3o8diiev3Y

A feed page of industry news could be done, but would require a bit of customization. It’s not something that’s built into the theme.

  29. Question by Charles

The top right sidebar component with ‘popular/categories/archives/tags’.

Can some of those 4 components be removed, or must all 4 be presented as a group?

And what exactly does ‘subscribe by email’ accomplish?

Is it just a way of capturing email addresses, like for a mailing list or newsletter?

Do they get email updates whenever a new post is added?

Does the ‘subscribe’ function only work for the given page on which they clicked the submit button, or is the subscribe function a site-wide thing?

I guess this is Blogging 101, but I’m not following the whole subscribe thing yet..

    Thank you,
    Charles

    • Answer by Michael

With a little guidance from our support forum folks, elements can pretty easily be removed from the sidebar tabbed navigation box.

The subscribe function works with Feedburner email. If you have an email list through another provider, such as AWeber, for example, you can insert the form code on the Theme Settings page, and folks will be able to subscribe to your email list.

The subscribe function will appear on every page that has the sidebar.

  30. Question by Pete

Sorry I see it listed above as a feature.

    • Answer by Michael

      No problem at all.

  31. Question by Pete

Thank you for the reply. Does this theme auto generate thumbnails?

    • Answer by Michael

Yes, once the theme is installed and set-up properly, the thumbnails will appear automatically.

  32. Question by Pete

Does this theme have the ability to have auto rotating banner adds or is that a static banner at the top?

    • Answer by Michael

Out of the box, those banner ads are static ads only. However, if you have some sort of ad management or banner rotating script, you could replace the code within the template files. We could show you where to place the code.

  33. Question by James

I’m looking at getting this theme, it has everything I want in a theme. I have one question though regarding the post width and fitting photos. Photos in my posts are 600 pixels wide. I notice that posts widths are also 600 pixels wide. Will this cause a problem? Can I increase the width of the post box to, say, 620 pixels?

    • Answer by Michael Pollock

Hi James. You could increase the width of the main content area as long as you don’t mind also decreasing the width of the right sidebar. The other option is to simply add a few lines of code to the stylesheet to limit the width of any photos/images in the main content area. This would likely be the better option.
