  1. Question by Daryl Hulce

We are looking to add an online newsletter to the FBI-SOS (Safe online Surfing) website. Does WP-Smooth have the built in feature to change the header graphic? Also can people register / sign up to be mass emailed or is that a plugin?

    • Answer by Michael Pollock

Yes, you can change the header graphic via the theme setting page. The email function built into the theme uses Feedburner email. Or you can use your own email list provider (e.g. Aweber, ConstantContact, etc) and just paste their subscription form embed code into the theme settings page.

  2. Question by donny

Can you add extra pages to this webpage at a cost or for free? I am wanting to build a web page but i am not sure ow many pages i will need.. At least 20

    • Answer by Michael Pollock

With your own hosted WordPress site, you can add as many pages as you like for free.

  3. Question by Alex

    Hi,

Is it possible to display more than 4 category previews on the front page? I would probably need to display either 6 or 8.

    • Answer by Michael Pollock

Hi Alex. It is possible but would require a bit of code modification. I can offer guidance if you decide to purchase.

  4. Question by Carlos

Does Wp-Aire provide the buttons like on your main site? The Big “Read More” buttons?

  5. Question by Carlos

Is this the theme used in your homepage? http://www.solostream.com

If not, which theme is used in the home page?

    • Answer by Michael Pollock

No, the solostream.com site is a custom designed theme. WP-Aire is somewhat similar but still not an exact match.

  6. Question by Bailey Hunter

I’m very interested in this theme and it’s apparent functionality.

Our current site (which needs serious upgrading) is hosted on godaddy using wordpress right now.

Will this theme work there, first off?

Secondly what kind of support will I have since I am a complete newbie to wordpress, but like the ease of updating content and swapping out ads? I’ll need a lot of help. We currently have a fair amount of content and I am afraid of the downtime that may occur since, I know nothing. :-)

    Thank you for your help.

    • Answer by Michael Pollock

As long as your host can run WordPress, our themes will work for you. Theme support is provided via the Solostream support forum. If you have a question or problem related to using our themes, simply post your question there, and one of our moderators can help you.

  7. Question by David

Is there a way to make the “Featured Article Glider” play on it’s own like a slide show? Or Does a visitor HAVE to click on a different picture to scroll through the featured articles?

Thank you very much. This is a fantastic theme. Leaning heavily toward buying it.

    • Answer by Michael Pollock

Hi David. Yes, that can be done.

  8. Question by Zara

    Hi there,

i’m hoping to purchase this website template but am not sure about the multimedia options etc. We want to include a photogallery, and a video gallery. would this possible with widgets?

    • Answer by Michael Pollock

Hi Zara. WordPress has built-in photo gallery support for posts and pages, but not widgets. You’d need some sort of plugin for that.

  9. Question by Ali

    Hi,
What’s the difference between your wp-smooth and wp-clear theme?

    • Answer by Michael Pollock

The main difference is the appearance. Nearly everything else is the same.

  10. Question by CJ

When you say you can customize it as much as I like you mean I can change the colors of say the white background to black, the text to white and the headlines and links to another color?

    • Answer by Michael Pollock

Yes, you can make any changes you want.

  11. Question by Chris

    Hello,

I was wondering about the background colors. Obviously, there are lots of choices, but this is for a school newspaper web site and we have pretty specific colors – kelly green like on your solostream site – could the background image and the bars be changed to that color? Also can the single use theme css be edited and modified by students?
    thanks!

    • Answer by Michael Pollock

Hi Chris. The theme has the built-in colors you see on the demo site. You are welcome to change the colors any way you like, however. In fact, you can customize the theme as much as you like.

  12. Question by Paul

    Hi…Great Theme!

I was wondering if there was any possibility of a manual install from someone on your staff…I’m a tech newbie and would love to purchase this theme, but I would honestly have no idea how to install it. If you wouldn’t be able to provide this service, would you be able to point me to someone who could? Thanks in advance!

    • Answer by Michael Pollock

Hi Paul. Yes, we can install for you. Just use our contact form to set it up.

  13. Question by streetball

    is this wordpress mu compatible?

    • Answer by Michael Pollock

Hi Ryan. The theme is designed to work with standard WordPress. It will likely work with WPMU, but we’ve not tested it.

  14. Question by Derek

    Hi Mike

2 last questions. Thank you for answering the magazine ones last night re “Clear”

Is smooth pretty much the same as clear except different colours and a background picture . . as I am thinking this may be a better option if it is the same and I can change the background graphic.

And a techy question, are the frontpage blocks (category feeds) widgetised (or with some small personal customisation myself I could drop a widget under them in the home.php file.

That’s all. Will login tonight and purchase.

    • Answer by Michael Pollock

Yes, wp-smooth is pretty much the same as wp-clear functionality-wise.

No, the category blocks are not widgetized. If you know how to create a widget, you could place one there if you like.

  15. Question by April Brandewie

    Hi! ;)
I am looking for a layout that will allow me to put a nice flash display of “featured articles” at the top left/center and then a video to the right above the fold. I like everything about the WP-Smooth except that the montization [the square with four small 125X125 ad spaces] is where I would like a video. I would like those ads to be just below a video.

With that being said, here is my question specifically:

Can the WP-Smooth layout do this? Can I put a video above the fold to the right and move the ad box right below it. AND… if so, how difficult is it? [I am brand spaking new to WordPress]

*I would like to get started asap. Hopefully by tomorrow [Tuesday] morning. I hope to hear from you by then, so that I can make a decision about which theme to buy. I think your theme in general is ten times better than the Revolution Church theme but I am married to having the flash box and video above the fold… I hope this will work with WP-Smooth. I’ll be waiting with bells on to hear back from you! :)

    Thank you so much.
    Best regards,
    April Brandewie

    • Answer by Michael Pollock

Hi April. Thanks for the kind words. The 125×125 banner ads are created with a sidebar widget, so you can place whatever you like there, including video embed code.

  16. Question by AA

    Hi,

I really like your theme but had a few questions.

Can I customize the header and place a big banner there? I have a very good understanding of CSS.

and I don’t want to place advertisements, is that possible as well or do I have to use the built in ads feature?

    Thanks
    AA

    • Answer by Michael Pollock

Hi AA. Yes, it’s very easy to add your own logo/header image. No, you don’t have to use the advertisements. They are very easy to turn off.

  17. Question by Jonathan

    Hi there,
Instead of a tag tab that has a pull-down menu of tags, can a tag cloud be put in the sidebar instead? Does the theme have an option for this, or would an extra plug-in be needed?
    Thanks!
    Jonathan

    • Answer by Michael Pollock

it’s not something built into the theme, but it would not be difficult to make that change. no plugin needed.

  18. Question by Paul Magno

Ooops, Sorry Michael…I gave Jeff the credit for the template…sorry about that…

“Hi Paul. You won’t be able to use our themes on WordPress.com sites as they don’t allow it. Our themes only work for self-hosted WordPress sites.”

    I mixed things up between.com and .org….

But let’s say I self-hosted a wordpress.org site and just had my .com address directed there…would that work?

And, if so, would it have all the things I’m looking for, per my last mail…?

Thanks. I need something that won’t force me to dig into coding for every post I make…I just don’t have the time or the smarts :)

Thanks in advance for your response…

    • Answer by Michael Pollock

Hi Paul. Yes, you can use the them on a self-hosted site. As far as writing posts, there’s no reason you’d need to get into the code to do that.

  19. Question by Paul Magno

    Hi Jeff…Beautiful design.

I’m a complete noob about this stuff…I’ve looked into other templates and some are just insanely complicated and troublesome with me having to change code after each post to make it work.

What would I need to do to implement this theme? I’m looking for something that would be as easy as me posting and the template doing all the work of formatting photos, linking stories to the content glider, etc…

    Is this realistic?

Also, would even a noob be able to install this template on to a wordpress.com account?

    Thanks…

    • Answer by Michael Pollock

Hi Paul. You won’t be able to use our themes on WordPress.com sites as they don’t allow it. Our themes only work for self-hosted WordPress sites.

  20. Question by Jeff

Here is an example of a background site skin. This website is advertising for an upcoming dvd release in the background of their site. This is the best example I could find. Many websites will have advertising campaigns that use this from time to time. Just curious if the background is customizable. I see the color can be changed so is it possible to have an image in the background?

    http://www.boxofficeworld.com/

    • Answer by Michael Pollock

Ahh, that’s what I’d call a body background image, and yes, you can easily add a custom body background image to wp-smooth via the theme settings page.

  21. Question by Jeff

With this template can we do site skins? We have advertisers who like to do “takeovers” and advertise on the background. Is this customizable wit the WP-Smooth theme? Thanks in advance for your help.

    • Answer by Michael Pollock

Hi Jeff. Not quite sure what you mean by “site skins.” Are you meaning a different design other than the standard design shown on the demo site? If so, no, that’s not something you can do.

  22. Question by Arielle Retting

Hello! I am interested in purchasing a theme from you, and have two questions regarding the WP-Smooth theme:

1 – is the price a one-time purchase, i.e., there are no license renewal fees?

2 – is it possible to customize the theme with additional widgets or edits to the source files in order to change colors, fonts, etc?

    • Answer by Michael Pollock

Hi Arielle. Yes, it’s a one-time fee. No renewal fees. Yes, you can customize the theme as much as you like.

  23. Question by Shenelle

Does this include auto image image resizing?

    • Answer by Michael Pollock

      Hi Shenelle. Yes, it does.

  24. Question by John

I’m curious before I purchase wp-smooth, have you or do you plan on using the wordpress core thumbnail features that were added into wp 2.9 instead of the thumbnail plugin? Thanks John

    • Answer by Michael Pollock

Hi John. For the time being, we will continue to use the Get the Image plugin in or themes as it offers the most flexibility in working with images. However, the plugin does integrate the core WP thumbnail feature, so you can still use that feature alongside the plugin.
