Question by Allen
This is one of the best themes I’ve seen and I appreciate the work you have put in to allow customization by non-programmers like myself.
My questions are:
1) Can the 4 “mini” posts lined up across the second row be configured to be “pages” instead of “posts”. In other words, can they just be text boxes that link to a full page description without showing the date/comments etc.?
2) Can you alter the number of these “mini” posts to be 2 or 3 instead of 4?
Thanks!
Answer by Michael Pollock
Hi Allen. Thanks for the kind words. Both those items can be done, however, it would require quite a bit of customization beyond the functionality available via the theme settings page.
Question by Rob
I’m interested to know if this theme works fine with Disqus please?
Many thanks!
Answer by Michael Pollock
Hi Rob. You should have no problem using Disqus with this theme.
Question by Sam
Very nice looking theme.
Can the order of the featured content gallery be controlled? Assuming it will show the latest content on the top, but is there a way we can control what the order is and avoiding it choose the latest content?
Answer by Michael Pollock
Hi Sam. The post order is a function of WordPress, and the only simple way to control it is by using some sort of plugin, such as PostMash (Filtered).
Question by nchslive
Hello,
I am the editor-in-chief of our high school’s online publication. For the last year we have been using Arthemia Pro and are now beginning to look for a new theme. We are interested in your Genius theme. I just have some questions that need to be answered before we take the next step into buying a theme.
1. Is there some type of editor menu where you can change the code to add in different colors and change the design that is provided?
2. Also with solostream themes, is it relatively easy to add in videos and podcasts?
3. Once buying a theme, does all of the wordpress posts easily convert over to the new theme?
Besides that we really like the themes you have!
Thanks, Sam
Answer by Michael Pollock
Hi Sam.
There are several built-in color options that can easily be changed via the theme settings page. You can also change colors, such as the body background color, header background color, font and link colors via the theme settings page.
Adding videos and/or podcasts is not really a function of any particular theme. It’s more a function of WordPress itself. There’s nothing about Solostream themes that would make it any harder or easier to add such items.
When you add a new theme, your posts, themselves, are not changed. The only thing that changes is how the posts are presented on your site. You can see the demo site to get an idea what that will look like.
Question by Ciso
Hi Michael,
I’m interested in buying this theme (the multi-account licence) but I have some questions:
1- in the social-sidebar which social-network are “supported”. Are there Youtube and Google Buzz icons?
2- What about translating to another language? Is it there a single file to translate or I have to look all around the files to find sentences to translate?
Thank you very much.
Answer by Michael Pollock
Hi Ciso. The only social networks that are supported are the ones shown on the demo site. Youtube and Google Buzz are not included.
As for translation, yes, you’d have to go through the theme and translate. There is no single file currently available.
Question by Nico
Hello,
I’m interested in this theme but I wonder the degree of customization allowed. For example, what if I want to replace the background color with an image?
Thanks
Answer by Michael Pollock
Hi Nico. You can customize the theme as much as you like. There are no limitations on that.
Question by Christian
hi,
I am looking to buy Genius theme, but i have the following question:
If I integrate a classified theme within the genius theme, which license I have to buy?
Classified theme is http://wpclassipress.com/
Thanks for your prompt response,
Best regards,
Answer by Michael Pollock
Hi Christian. If you’ll be using the theme on just 1 site that you own, you need the Basic license. If you will be using the theme on multiple sites that you own, you need the Premium license. If you will be using the theme as a platform to develop sites for clients, you need the Developer license.
Question by Nicole Rose
Hello,
I am considering purchasing this theme but tend to post a lot of pictures. I was curious if wp-genius worked with a lightbox style plugin and if so which is most compatible?
Thanks in advance!
Nicole
Answer by Michael Pollock
Hi Nicole. There are several lightbox plugins out there, and many of them work fine with WP-Genius. We’ve not tested all of them, so it’s difficult to say which one would be best for you. Recently, I’ve tested Shutter Reloaded and Shadowbox JS, and they work fine. You can see Shadowbox JS implemented on this post: http://dev.michaeldpollock.com/2009/06/what-do-you-think-of-these-photos/
Question by KEVIN CRISP
I WANTED TO KNOW IF I AM LIMITED TO THE 4 BANNERS ALLOTTED AT 125 X 125? CAN WE ADD MULTIPLE BANNERS ON THE HOMEPAGE? CAN THEY ROTATE WITH THE SOLOSTREAM TEMPLATE? WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO OPTIMIZE THE SITE FOR SEO?
Answer by Michael
You can place as many 125×125 banners as you like. It’s done with a sidebar widget. There’s nothing built into the theme for banner/ad rotation.
The theme is already well-optimized for SEO. You might want to use the All-in-One SEO plugin as well.
Question by Linda Camurato
Hello, I love this theme; it looks very professional!
If I purchase it I would like to use it with Adsense, is it optimized for it?
And about the box at the top of the template that displays different pictures with a semi-transparent banner on them, I see it takes the whole width of the page. Would it be possible to have only the left side of the box so that I could add Adsense code on the right?
Thank you,
Linda
Answer by Michael
Hi Linda. Thanks for the kind words. Regarding Adsense, there are 2 available ad blocks built into the theme; one in the header and another just above the posts (you can see them on the demo site). You can place Adsense ads there if you like. You can also place ads in the sidebar and/or footer via the Widgets panel.
As for the featured content area at the top, you could replace the right side with ads if you like, but it would require a bit of code wrangling to do so.
Question by george
i like this theme. but can the comments be at the right sidebar instead of the foot-page? i see you prefer foot-page but comments are important to me and i want the reader’s eye to catch them at once
Answer by Michael
Hi George. Yes, the comments can very easily go in the right sidebar through the use of WordPress widgets. Widgets allow you to easily add and remove content – such as comments – to the sidebar and footer areas.
If you haven’t already seen it, this Introduction to WordPress video shows that feature.
Question by Zach
I have purchased themes from you before and always love what we get. I want to try your genius theme out on my site, so I plan on buying the single use. If I like it I might use it on more sites and was wondering if I do want to, can I upgrade to the multiple use for the price difference?
Thanks
Zach
Answer by Michael
Hi Zach. If you purchase the Basic license and later upgrade to the Premium or Developer license, you only need to pay the difference between the 2 licenses.
Question by Martin
Hello there,
is there a possibility to take a look at the color options? In addition it is necessary for me to translate the template. Do you already have a localized language file?
Answer by Michael
Hi Martin. If you visit the WP-Genius demo site, you will now see a link in the top navigation bar for “Color Options.” Just click the links for the color option you’d like to see.
Question by uintah basin business
as this is my first time to purchase a premium theme, i would like to know if i’m allowed to customize the theme i purchased even if it’s not the developer edition. by customize i only mean colors, background image/color, icons, fonts, etc. i understand that with free themes this is okay but i’m not sure with premium themes.
Answer by Michael Pollock
You are free to modify the template to your every desire. The license restrictions impact the number of sites you use the theme on and whether you would like to sell modified copies of the theme to potential customers.
Question by Brett
Hello, Great Theme, I really want to run it for my new (large) project, but we are using Wordpress MU, does this theme run with MU?
Answer by Michael Pollock
We have not had a chance to test this one of WP MU. However, we’d be willing to give you the chance to try the theme out with your site. If it doesn’t work out for you, we can make arrangements to refund your purchase.
Question by Michelle
The template looks great! Our site has a lot of content that is outside WP, such as our forum, gallery, and wiki. Does this theme allow for inclusion of menus that link to non-WP content? Eg along the top next to the Home button, could we have Forum, Wiki, Gallery links? How about sub-menus for those?
Answer by Michael Pollock
Absolutely, as an example, you can see on the Solostream home page how we link to our support forum using the page link at the top of the page.
Question by Niña
hi Mike, it’s me again :) do you have a twitter image that says ‘Follow US’ instead of ‘Follow me’ for this? i love the twitter image bundled with this theme but my site requires ‘us’ instead of ‘me’.
thanks!
Answer by Michael Pollock
We went and customized the logo and posted on the WP-Genius board in our forum. Customers who will like to do it can go there and download it for free.
Question by Jamy
New Wordpress 2.9 should be out in about 2 weeks. Will we still be able to use these themes? Thanks
Answer by Michael Pollock
Absolutely. No problem at all with WP 2.9.
Question by Alex
Hello Mike,
Is WP-Genius 1.0 Basic fully editable (css, xhtml)? I understand that the credits in footer have to stay but what about the rest? Is there a limit of what can be edited (added/changed?)
Answer by Michael Pollock
All of our themes at this time are fully editable. We want you to have fun and create the best possible site with our themes.
Question by Kyle
Mike, From what I have seen, great design. I would like to use this theme in WP for a special Newsroom series that we are launching. Can we add a custom header, change some colors…Thanks.
Answer by Michael Pollock
Yes, you can absolutely use it for a newsroom series. We look forward to seeing your work.
Question by Max
Looks awesome. Great work!
Is it possible with this theme to have, like many other of your themes, to have the categorie bar with drop down menu at the top (under the pages) as a navigation menu ?
Answer by Michael Pollock
Actually, our themes all have the navigation bars located in specific parts of the themes. You can not easily move them around because it will break up the code.
If you are interested in a custom design with that type of feature using the genius base, please feel free to get in touch with us.
Question by Mike
Wow. Very nice theme!!!
This is exactly what i’ve been looking for. I would like to use this as a cms for a website. Before I buy, i wanted to know that the columns are adjustable? I would like to turn the left column into a nav bar area and the middle to be the main content. Any extra info will be awesome. Again, amazing work!
Answer by Michael Pollock
Thanks for the compliment. We’re so glad you like it. WP-Genius doesn’t offer a control panel option to change the columns layout in the theme. If you have the knowledge to do so, you are certainly welcome to try (make sure you back everything up so you prevent a nightmare later if something goes wrong). We can also provide you with a quote for customization services if you are interested in pursuing.
Question by Iskwew
Layout Control Questions – What’s that second row of posts under the featured area? Are they the additional 4 featured articles? And is it possible to have side-by-side posts on the home page, or just stacked categories?
Answer by Michael Pollock
All of the following is managed in the control panel:
- For the featured articles, you have the option of choosing 5 or 9 featured positions. The last four will be for the blocks in the layout as opposed to the 5 positions in the slider.
- Home and Archive page posts may be arranged in a stacked or side-by-side layout.
