Portfolio

This is some of the work we’ve completed recently. Have a look.

Blog Design: Springboard Press

spbdscreen.jpgCompany: Springboard Press
Business Type: Book Publisher
Website: www.springboardpress.net

Springboard Press publishes nonfiction books for the Baby Boomer generation. The majority of their readers are women and they wanted a design that incorporated some lighter colors. Basically, they provided the logo and a color scheme, and I built a WordPress driven site based upon those elements. As a male designer, I tend to focus on darker, more “masculine” colors, so this was a bit of a challenge for me. In the end, working with a couple of their editors, we managed to come up with a site with which they are very happy.

Online Magazine: BSM Digest

bsmscreen.jpgCompany: BSM Digest
Business Type: Online Magazine
Website: www.bsmdigest.com

BSM Digest is an online magazine that I converted to a WordPress platform for easier content management. The logo and design was already done, and all I had to do was recreate it to be used with WordPress.

Blog Design: Mobile Marketing Watch

mmwscreen.jpgCompany: Victor Berggren
Business Type: Blog
Website: www.mobilemarketingwatch.com

Victor contacted me last week, and asked if I could create a new design for his WordPress blog, Mobile Marketing Watch. His new logo was done by logoworks, and all he wanted me to do was build the site around around it. The project went incredibly smoothly, and we had a nice little blog design knocked out in less than a week.

Video Blog Design: Clever Parents TV

cptvscreen.jpgCompany: Kris and David Jackson
Business Type: Parenting Blog and Vidcast
Website: www.cleverparents.tv

I redesigned Kris and David’s main site, Clever Parents, back in September. This new site is a video blog for their vidcast, Clever Parents TV. The design is nearly identical to the original site; just tweaked to make it a video blog.

Blog Design: Subventions.fr

subvscreen.jpgCompany: Subventions.fr
Business Type: Blog
Website: www.subventions.fr

Subventions.fr is a WordPress-driven blog published by Adrien Geille. The big challenge for me on this project was the language barrier. Although Adrien speaks English quite well, the site is driven by the French version of WordPress, and I don’t speak or read French at all. In the end though, I muddled my way through, and handled the project. Solostream Web Studio did all the design and programming on this site.

Website Design With Blog: Stephen Shapiro

shapscreen.jpgCompany: Stephen Shapiro
Business Type: Speaker, Author and Consultant
Website: www.stephenshapiro.com

Stephen and I did a podcast together several months back, and we discussed his book, Goal-Free Living. Later, he asked me to help him consolidate several sites into one site that featured all his various products and services. Using WordPress as a content managment system, we put together a very nice site that also includes a blog.

The design concept and layout was handled by Susanne Goldstein, while Solostream did all the programming and much of the graphic design work.

Blog Design: Christoph Schweiger

cs-screen.jpgCompany: Christoph Schweiger
Business Type: Real Estate Agent
Website: www.christophschweiger.com

Christoph is a real estate agent working in the Phoenix metro area. He asked me to help him create a site that would set him apart from all the other fine real estate bloggers out there. We came up with a WordPress-driven site that - in my opinion - is some of my best work to date. We’re also putting the finishing touches on a real estate listings site built with WordPress MU, although it’s not quite ready for public consumption.

Solostream Web Studio did all the design and programming on this site.

Blog Design: The Boy Genius Report

bgscreen.jpgCompany: Boy Genius Report, Inc
Business Type: Gadget Blog
Website: www.boygeniusreport.com

The Boy Genius came to me and asked me to re-design his WordPress-driven blog, The Boy Genius Report. Although the previous design was pretty good, the header area of the blog was composed of a flash file that extended beyond the width of a 1024×768 resolution browser window, and it looked a little odd. Another request was to convert the site from a static-width site to an elastic-width site that expanded as the browser width expanded. That was a big challenge for me as I’d never done an elastic-width site. In the end, however, the site turned out very clean and much more user-friendly than the previous version.

Blog Design: JobsInPods

jipscreen.jpgCompany: AllCountyJobs.com LLC
Business Type: Job Search
Website: www.jobsinpods.com

Created by Chris Russell, JobsinPods.com is a unique service that brings jobs and podcasts together. The site, which is also a blog, advertises jobs through audio podcast interviews which they conduct over the phone with a company’s HR staff & employees.

Chris launched the site initially using my free Bosco theme. He then asked me to customize Bosco to fit his own needs and style. The site runs on a WordPress platform, and includes sidebar widgets to make it easy for Chris to change his sidebar content.

Solostream Web Studio did all design and programming on this site, except for the logo, which Chris supplied himself.

Website Design With Blog: Eagle Alliance Executive Coaching

cilscreen.jpgCompany: Eagle Alliance Executive Coaching
Business Type: Executive Coach
Website: www.eaglealliance.com

Bill and Kathy Murray are the faces behind Eagle Alliance Executive Coaching. Bill contacted me to re-design and convert his static, HTML-based website to a dynamic WordPress driven platform. As the outcome clearly indicates, WordPress is much more than just a “blogging” platform. Although Bill’s new site does include a blog, it looks and acts just like a traditional website, except that it also includes the powerful content management functionality provided by the WordPress platform.

Blog Design: CrashIntoLove

cilscreen.jpgCompany: Smalley Impact, LLC
Business Type: Author/Speaker
Website: www.crashintolove.com

CrashIntoLove.com is site of Michael and Amy Smalley, a husband and wife team who writes and speaks on the topics of marriage, family and relationship. Solostream Web Studio handled all design and coding on this multi-author, WordPress-driven blog.

Blog Design: LaunchTube

ltscreen.jpgCompany: LaunchTube
Business Type: Blog
Website: www.launchtube.com

LaunchTube takes visitors on a visual discovery of Web 2.0. Through various forms of online video, LaunchTube offers product tutorials and demo screencasts that help viewers get a more in-depth experience of the latest Web 2.0 companies, applications and products.

Aside from the logo, Solostream Web Studio handled all design, layout and coding on this WordPress-driven blog.

Blog Design: E-Auction Air

screenshotCompany: E-Auction Air
Business Type: E-commerce Podcast and Blog
Website: www.eauctionair.com

E-Auction Air is one of the web’s most popular podcasts related to eBay and e-commerce and more. Hosted by eBay expert Michael Donahue, E-Auction-Air originated as a weekly radio show on KJCE radio in Austin, Texas. In January 2005, the program moved to the internet to take advantage of the booming market in online radio.

Michael was previously publishing E-Auction Air on a static website, and he contacted me to help him move it over to a WordPress platform. He told me of the hours and hours he’d have to spend to create and publish his weekly show on a static website, and he was more than excited to get everything shifted over to a more user-friendly, database-driven platform like WordPress.

Michael already had a logo that he was happy with, so I merely tweaked it a bit and built a WordPress platform that would make it quicker and easier for him to publish his show. I also incorporated WordPress Widgets so he could more easily add and remove items from the site’s sidebars.

Blog Design: Web Marketing Advisors

screenshotCompany: Web Marketing Advisors
Business Type: E-commerce Consulting
Website: www.webmarketingadvisors.com

Web Marketing Advisors is the e-commerce consulting practice of Matthew Costello. Matthew was previously using Bosco, one of my free WordPress themes, and he asked me to customize it with his own logo and some different colors. We also incorparated a couple of plugins, such as the Filosofo Home Page Control plugin (for a custom home page), and WP-Quotes (for the random quotes in the site header).

Multi-Author Blog Design: Small Business Branding

screenshotCompany: Small Business Branding
Business Type: Blog
Website: www.smallbusinessbranding.com

Smalll Business Branding is a multi-author blog owned by my friend, Yaro Starak. It was also my very first blog. I launched it in November 2004 and then sold it to Yaro in December 2005.

Several months back, Yaro went to a multi-author format for SBB, and he wanted a design that could better accomodate that format. He also wanted something very different - style-wise - from his own blog, Entrepreneur’s Journey. He also had one other request that was a new challenge for me. He wanted each writer to be able to control what advertisements are placed on their article pages and author archives. According to Yaro:

“By doing this each author can decide how to make use of their content published to Small Business Branding. If they want to monetize their work they can place advertisements in the allotted space or if they want to promote their other websites and blogs they may place text links or banners or whatever they want.”

So, with a plugin here and there and some custom programming, we came up with what Yaro called “a fantastic solution.”
