5 Things You Probably Didn’t Know About Me
By Michael Pollock in Solostream News
Michael Chaffin was kind enough to tag me with the 5 things meme, so without further adieu, here goes.
1. I once auditioned to be a body double for the Naked Cowboy. The casting director laughed so hard that coffee shot out his left nostril. After he gained his composure, he politely suggested that I - and I’m paraphrasing here - go home and work on my glutes.
Okay. That’s not completely true, but at the tender age of 5-years-old, I did pull off a stirring portrayal of John F. Kennedy in a very short, but well-received, kindergarten play. To this very day, I can’t help but feel that I missed my calling as an actor.
2. I have two small peckers. Bosco and KT (I’ve forgotten which is which) are my daughter’s two pet parakeets. They live with me, and they’re both as mean as a Black Mamba snake. Unlike most domestic house pets, whenever you try to hold them, they gnaw your fingers like a pit bull on a poodle.
3. In the spring of 1998, I completed the Soapstone Mountain Half Marathon in Stafford, CT. It’s a 14.5 mile trail race over “varying quality dirt roads, unused logging roads, narrow footpaths and a rocky streambed.” It rained non-stop all day, and within the the first mile, me and about 100 other runners were - literally - on our hands and knees climbing straight up a muddy, treacherous cliff.
Soaked to the bone, I hobbled across the finish line about 2 hours later feeling exhausted and exhilarated all at once. It was the first organized race I ever ran. As of today, it was also the last, although I still dream of someday running the Boston Marathon. My knees, however, have other plans.
4. In my very early twenties, I read Unlimited Power, by Anthony Robbins. It’s the first book I remember reading out of choice. I’ve read many more books since then, but none have had quite as profound an impact on me as that one. It introduced me to the notion that I have the power to control my own thoughts. It seems odd now that it took so long for me to get that. It’s an idea and skill that should be taught at every level of education.
5. Other than freedom, family and friends, I truly believe there’s nothing worth fighting for.
So, that’s it. Now it’s time for me to tag five other unsuspecting souls. My list includes Kris Jackson, Michael Smalley, Michael Donahue, Brendan Monaghan and Stephen Shapiro.

Two small peckers? The more the merrier I suppose.
